After the pandemic, therapists world wide saw a huge increase in anxiety in children. Schools implemented emotional regulation programs and for a group of children this helped to make a difference, but for the younger children as well as the more sensitive children it was not enough.
I am a play therapist in a public school and I saw a lot of anxious children. I did research and experimented with therapeutic techniques and thus, Healing Honeys was born.
Our aim, first and foremost is to help children.
We know that getting a child to "actively do" something has a much bigger effect than trying to make them understand concepts like, "you don't need to be afraid".
We provide them with a tool to work through whatever their worry or anxiety is. A tool that they can play with!
Children learn, communicate and process through play. We want to empower them by giving them an effective resource.
All products are handmade, using the best quality wood and non-toxic paint. They are finished with care to ensure many hours of play.
We strive to supply a safe and effective resource to enrich the lives of all the children who use our products.
Our Team consist of:
Adél: Play therapist, co-painter, marketing and sales
Oom Johan: Pensioner, woodworking engineer and artist
Oom Kobus: Pensioner, painter, visionary, planning and quality control
May our Honeys help you heal.
Therapist
Adél brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from years of working with children. With a background in the pharmaceutical field, she has a strong scientific understanding of human physiology, which adds depth to her therapeutic work.
As a qualified Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Foundation Phase educator, she has designed and implemented programs for the Grade R curriculum. Recognizing the importance of individual support, Adél pursued her Play Therapy qualification through Play Therapy International and has been an active member of school support teams for many years.
Her passion for helping children reach their full potential inspired her to further expand her skills by qualifying as a dyslexia therapist. Today, she combines her diverse expertise to provide holistic support that nurtures children’s emotional, cognitive, and academic growth.
Therapy Dog
Doppio has been a much-loved member of our team since April 2021. As a Toy Poodle with a big personality, he often forgets he’s not human! Over the years, he has spent countless hours supporting children with emotional and learning challenges, bringing comfort, joy, and motivation to every session.
A dedicated learner himself, Doppio has completed several training courses and continues to be an eager student. He has a playful nature — especially when there’s a ball involved — and a soft spot for cheese, his favorite treat.
What makes Doppio truly special is his natural connection with children, particularly those with learning difficulties. His gentle presence helps children feel at ease, making therapy a positive and uplifting experience.
